Kuching (28 July): As the name suggest, the Lanuns are good at conquering! During the EASTDEAL Golf Challenge Trophy 2001, the Lanuns grabbed all the top three categories namely the Overall Champion, the Gross Category and the Eastdeal Staff Category.
Ten Handicapper, Omar Ali of KGS playing his sizzling form to win the Overall Champion with 4-under par (78 gross score) in a cooling breezy KGS. Losing on countback, Usumar Mohamad (handicap 12) securing second placing and an architect, Wan Lis carded one-over par to finish third placing. In addition, Banker Omar won two novelties for Bull-Eye and NTP.
Under the Gross Category, Mohamad Lokman Mustaffa, 8-handicapper playing respectably well and earned himself the top spot. He carded 81 gross score, three stroke ahead of Samad Abu who posted 84 to second placing. Sukiman Aini, who was struggling to maintain his game came back with 88 gross score to claim third placing.
Another Lanun player, Shaarani Haji Marzuki, outdwelled former champion Haidel Heli by 5 strokes to win the Eastdeal Staff Category.
Eastdale Golf Challenge Trophy, made a third year appearance with Haidel Heli and Haji Engsah written as winners in 2008 and 2009 respectively.
